7N Architects collaborated with landscape architects Lisa Mackenzie Consultancy on this competition proposal for a new complex at the National Wildflower Centre, Liverpool. Visitors will be initially welcomed under a floral canopy, before being drawn through a sequence of learning experiences as they simultaneously explore the built environment and the two-way relationship
between the natural world and scientific and mathematical thinking. A new sequential route is defined which takes into account the established landscape as well as aiding accessibility, interpretation and contemplation. The elegant structural framework maximises natural light whilst supporting a timber brown roof covered in soil that will ultimately be colonised by wind borne
seed. Crushed brick recycled from the existing shed structures will form the bed for seas of wildflower. Our holistic design approach combined education, research and leisure in a seamless entity intrinsically linked to the dynamics and sensory experience of wildflowers.
