With the growth of an evolving arts cluster at Speirs Locks, Glasgow, desire lines between the city centre and the canalside are becoming stronger. 7N Architects have been commissioned to look at ways to build upon the success of the Garscube Underpass, linking the incoming arts organisations at Speirs Locks back to the Cultural Quarter within Glasgow’s city centre and improving the physical and perceived connections between the two. This also provides an opportunity to realise the hidden asset of Renfrew Street as a vibrant cultural quarter, just a stone’s throw from Glasgow’s renowned Style Mile.

7N have developed initial wayfinding and public realm concepts to transform perceptions and raise the profile of Renfrew St and Speirs Locks as lively, flourishing arts destinations, harnessing the collective strength of the many cultural institutions in the area. It offers a long-term vision within a flexible regeneration framework that can evolve over time, responding to development opportunities as they arise to unlock the civic and economic potential of the wider area.
