Edington Street: A Creative Campus

19 Apr 2010

Work has commenced on the transformation of Edington Street into a creative campus at the heart of the Speirs Locks masterplan. This is the second of a number of planned public realm interventions for the area to be realised and follows on from the Garscube Link.

The revitalisation of Speirs Locks is gathering momentum with the occupation of industrial units by The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD) and The National Theatre of Scotland, clustering around Scottish Opera which have been in the area for a number of years. The plan is to tap into this creativity and energise the surrounding area as an Arts campus. In collaboration with RankinFraser Landscape Architects, we are realising the first phase of our proposals for the external space in Edington Street between the RSAMD and Scottish Opera. The long term intention for the street is to rid it of vehicles and turn it into a flexible, communal, space that can be colonised by the neighbouring Arts organisations for performances, events, teaching and gatherings.
